So you are interested in trying to take over the world with robots like Dr. Albert Wily,... Well the first and foremost thing you need to do is learn about Artificial Intelligence, the study and design of intelligent agents and systems. What if I told you can get formally introduced to the subject in one of the world's top school? By two of the world's leading authorities in A.I.? And it will not require course pre-requisites, and won't cost you a cent?
This Fall, professor Sebastian Thrun and Peter Norvig of Stanford have embarked in a most remarkable endeavor in offering Stanford Fall 2011 semester's S221: Introduction to Artificial Intelligence openly free to the public. Yes, Free enrollment in a college level course in the dynamic world of Artificial Intelligence without formal university enrollment. And from two world leaders in the the field of AI no less!
Among many other things, Sebastian Thrun is the Director of Stanford Artificial Intellegence Laboratory, most recently known for heading Google's Self Driving Car Project. Peter Norviq various positions and accomplishments include Councilor of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence and co-author of Artificial Intelligence, a Modern Approach, the world's leading textbook on the subject.
Don't be mistaken that this is just an online release of the course lectures. There's an assigned textbook and reading, regular graded assignments, quizzes, a midterm and a final exam of which your performance will be scored on. You will be doing all the same work that a Stanford Undergrad will be doing. Course material will also include video that will address reoccurring questions by students. While completion of this course for Stanford outsiders won't give your college credit, you are still walking out with all the same knowledge and information.
Enrollment into the course is said to go on until September 20th, but with already over 10,000 having signed up, I would not advise waiting out this one. You can get more information at the official site:
