(And yes, they are dancing to an ending theme song of Heart Catch Pretty Cure, "HeartCatch☆Paradise!" which I just had to mention so I could ascii that star in the title.) Heatman over on The Megaman Network has been recently mesmerized by the Dancing Barrett, linked to him by SealthWoman. So in a bid of cross promotion, and a break from the Dash 3 analysis, I figure I share a bit about the program of which that make it possible, Miku Miku Dance as well as the Rockman applications that have been done with it.
Miku Miku Dance is a freeware program for users to animate 3D polygon models for video. As it's name suggest, it was developed originally for the creation of music dance videos staring Vocaloid Song Synthesizer and Idol Character, Hatsune Miku. Programmed by Yu Higuchi ( Screen Name Higuchi M), it's original features allowed for users to animated a polygon model of Hatsune Miku, as well as synchronize her mouth movement with Vocaloid song files.
But since it's introduction, updated versions with new features have been made publicly available, adding to the versatility of this program. The most noteworthy feature to helped grew it's popular usage was the ability to input original polygon model creations for animation. Basically, this opened the flood gates for any dedicated fan to have a character of their choosing to interact in a 3D space, provided they had the heart and effort to build said models.
Which brings us where the Rockman Fans come in. There are a lot of industrious Rockman Fans out there, and they have made a lot of different Rockman featured MMD videos. While you can watch Dancing Barrett, X and Zero over at The Megaman Network, I've linked to a few below from Nico Nico Douga. For the rest of them, go check out the Nico Nico Douga website (you will need to be a registered user of the site to access them there).
A Few Tips Before Beginning
- Note that you have to press the play button on the frames below. Clicking anywhere else will open a new window to the video
- The "..." will disable viewer comments, in case you find them in your way
- A warning of "OMG this is high pitched Techno J-pop" if your ears are sensitive to that stuff. It applies to most of the videos,...
- Nico Nico Douga does have "peak hours" limitations. So depending on when you watch a video, it may be blurrier than normal because of peak hours.
Even a 8-bit Metall! (warning, this one loops)
And to end things for this article, Rockman leads a flood of Vocaloid and other Models in dance~
If you like what you see, you can pick up the English version of this program over at the Vocaloid Promotional Video Project Website, and give the program a try for yourself.
